I love amalya so much! It's definitely becoming one of my favourite wool& dresses so far. I had been worried about this style with the defined waist but I find it super flattering. I love the details of the buttons and that it can be worn on its own or layered like a long cardigan. I love the colour combo and fit over my long plum camellia. Pockets are smaller / neater than the Sierra/ camellia pockets but still a good enough size to carry my necessities in
The colour, fit and fabric were lovely but not a flattering style for me - the waist of the dress was too high and I would have preferred longer length - felt frumpy :(
The Amalya is one of my favourite wool& purchases and I now have quite a few! The cut doesn’t swamp my 5’4 frame and it is a neat and flattering fit. Unfortunately though I think the quality of the dress which I received was a bit lacking. After first wearing it, I noticed a small hole in the seam next to the pocket. I informed wool& and they kindly offered to let me send it back or accept a small refund so I could fix it. I was happy with this and chose the latter. Unfortunately though after fixing this hole, another hole appeared the following week next to the stitching on the v neck which is disappointing. I have never experienced any problems with my other purchases so I’m guessing it was a one off faulty dress. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one in a different colour as the shape and length is so good.
I wasn't used to the 1x, 2x sizes, I assumed 1x equaled xl since there was only one x in it... I had bought an xxl and loved the dress, but had lost weight and though 1x would fit better. It arrived before my holiday and afterwards we had a heatwave, so when I finally wore it (as a cardigan over my challenge dress) I noticed that it worked as a cardigan but would not close at all. My mistake. But I love it as a cardigan, I love the colour (navy) and how it gives a bit more of a silhouette when you wear it over a dress without a waist. I always assumed that I would wear in mainly as a cardigan anyway, the style as a dress is not entirely my style, and it is very hard to find nice summer cardigans. So on the whole I would say it is totally as advertised and lovely material and works as I intended.
I did my challenge in a 1X Sierra and didn't think I would find a dress I liked as much, but the Amalya just might be that dress. It is supremely flattering: the elastic waist hugs in just the right place; the v-neck is low enough to show off a nice necklace but not so low that I have to worry about bending over in my classroom; there's good arm coverage and it doesn't hug the underarm; the length hits just on my knee, which is a little longer than the Sierra, but it has the button-through element so it is kind of adjustable. It's very comfortable to wear. The fabric is thinner than the Sierra with a good drape that is not too clingy - I don't have to think too hard about what underwear I'm going to choose. From the shape in the pictures, I was worried that the dress might be too tight across the hips and belly on me, as I am pear-shaped, but I'm happy to report that it maintains its A-line and there is no bagging around the buttons. All-in-all, I'd say this is a slightly smarter option and I can put a suit jacket on with it and feel work-ready, but it would also work for casual occasions.
Nice dress, length is great for office wear, V neck not too low
